Tier 3 High Performance Computing (HPC) Data Centre

Stellium provides Tier 3+ OCP Ready™ certified data centres, powered by 100% renewable energy and global subsea low-latency connectivity

Businesses using high-performance computing (HPC) to run workloads ranging from artificial intelligence (AI) to machine learning face challenges to minimise their latency and increase capacity.

With the rapid acceleration of these technologies and the doubling of global IP traffic every 3 to 5 years, combined with a very public focus on data centre sustainability, it has become increasingly important to manage digital infrastructure as efficiently as possible.

Many of the leading organisations running high-performance computing (HPC) workloads have come to Stellium for their data centre management services.

OCP Ready Tier 3 Data Centre

Stellium 1 is one of the first UK data centres to achieve OCP-Ready™ certification in recognition that our HPC data centre has been designed and operated for complex, intensive computing on a hyper-scale level.

We offer artificial intelligence (AI) and high-performance computing (HPC) infrastructure users a bespoke data centre service that reduces costs and increases efficiency. All organisations are now able to benefit from their high-density computing environments by choosing Stellium as their data centre partner.

Stellium is designed to host and efficiently cool client racks from 10kW to 200kW, offering:

Connected to resilient 275kV Grid Power.

UPS A & B power single or three phases from 32 to 100A available to individual racks.

HPC cooling of client racks from 10 to 100kW using in-row/rear door chilled water cooling.

Bespoke designs for fully immersive cooling up to 200kW per rack can be supported.

Datahall Layout and Design

Our data hall layout is OCP compliant which means prefabricated 1500 KG racks can be delivered in roll-off form through our loading dock to our OCP compliant environment. Alternatively, racks can be built on-site using our secure storage and dedicated build rooms.

Facility Operations

Sustainable infrastructure, driven by a low P.U.E of 1.2. Standby infrastructure operating on HVO (Hydrogenated Vegetable Oil) that is 90% carbon-free. Innovative sustainability measures to reduce carbon footprint and customer power costs such as battery storage and solar solutions implemented onsite.

BMS Control

Comprehensive BMS to monitor and control your data centre environment, from temperature to humidity, all within SLA, covering; power, temperature, humidity, security and communications.

Global Subsea Connectivity

Our critical location in high-growth Northern England delivers world-beating connectivity, from America to the west to Europe to the east and south.

Stellium is a UK hub for data transmitted between the United States, the UK and Europe as the cable landing station for the North Sea Connect cable, part of the North Atlantic Loop transatlantic subsea fibre network provided by Aquacomms.

The Aqua Comms Global network is a resilient, ring-based infrastructure providing the highest availability between the East Coast of the U.S., Ireland, and Northern Europe. Capacity Services, Managed Spectrum, Fibre Pair Solutions & Professional Services can be provided throughout these networks. Services are provided across multiple systems to offer true diversity, but can be offered on a single system to suit your needs.

Further details on Aqua Comms services can be found here.

Stellium is also the UK data centre cable landing station (CLS) for the Altibox-Carrier NO-UK subsea fibre cable running to/from the Nordics and mainland Europe.

NO-UK connects the Nordics to important digital hubs such as Newcastle, London, Brussels, Amsterdam, and Hamburg. With a capacity of up to 160 terabits per second, the subsea fibre cable significantly increases data capacity between the Nordics and the rest of the world.

Partner Services

Colt Technology Services connects Stellium Newcastle directly with NJFX New Jersey over its new transatlantic backbone route

This latest extension of Colt’s IQ Network is part of Colt’s continued investment in global network infrastructure. The new transatlantic route gives businesses greater choice, security and flexibility as they seamlessly connect economic and commercial hubs in  Europe and the US across Colt’s award-winning digital infrastructure.

Having launched as a new IQ Network location at Stellium in June 2022, Colt delivers on-net services to Stellium Datacenters tenants, and connects to commercial locations across Newcastle, joining the north-east region to Colt’s global communications network connecting 222 cities throughout the UK, Europe, Asia and North America.  Colt’s presence at Stellium offers fully managed services of up to 40Gb for IP and Ethernet, and up to 400Gb Optical Wave products.

Colt’s new high-capacity, resilient backbone over Aquacomm’s Havfrue / AEC-2 cable from Stellium Datacenters to NJFX is a critical part of the expansion. The addition of a new transatlantic option over the Colt IQ Network provides customers with a greatly diversified route.  By exiting the UK from Newcastle and entering the United States via New Jersey, Colt now offers a highly diversified path as an alternative Atlantic crossing.

The strategic move offers organisations such as capital markets firms and enterprises access to Colt’s wider portfolio of digital services and solutions, supporting their global digital transformation journeys and helping them accelerate plans for growth.

Newcastle Meets London with the NCL-IX, LINX (London Internet Exchange) and BSO Strategic Partnership

Stellium Datacenters, home of the Newcastle Internet Exchange (NCL-IX), and the London Internet Exchange (LINX) work together to provide digital solutions for businesses to enable ‘digital transformation.

hpc-data-centreOur joint solutions are proving popular as historically, sustainable colocation, global connectivity and wholesale bandwidth solutions have been problematic with huge cost implications.

The proposition has been tailored specifically to industries served by Stellium and facilitates access to the UK’s newest submarine cables from Aquacomms and Altibox/NO-UK connecting to the Nordics and North America with the lowest latency available.

Beyond this, with our multiple carrier partners ultra-low latency networks, any business located at either LINX in London, Manchester or Scotland or NCL-IX in Newcastle, can reach global destinations without the overheads or time taken to buy direct connectivity between sites.
